Diabetes contributes to high blood pressure though there has not been any data to show a specific cause and effect. Most diabetics develop hypertension as their disease progresses. The most important thing to do as a diabetic is to maintain strict glycemic control (control over your blood sugar). The blood vessels get damaged overtime, creating stiffer/harder vessels which cause an elevation in blood pressure. Complications of hypertention in diabetes are foot ulcers, retinopathies and paresthesia of lower extremities not to mention heart disease, which will probably be the ultimate killer of these patients.

Diabetes does not CAUSE high blood pressure, but more likely your diet and lack of exercise will cause it. You can be diabetic and never have high blood pressure if you take care of yourself.
There is a lot of info in a book I just read that is extremely helpful to diabetics and well as anyone wanting to take better care of themselves. Read "YOU on a diet" by Mehmet Oz and Dr Michael Roizen. They have been featured on Oprah a lot lately. Dr Oz is the Poop doctor. Have you heard of him? He is a genius. I have followed his ideas lately and controled not only my blood sugar, blood pressure, but cholesterol and weight.

well prednisone is a steroid and comes with a lot of negative side-effects. For instance my grandmother went psychotic on it. My mother stayed up for three days on it. So if your having any trouble I would go get checked out, because if your having headache and blood pressure problems its better to be safe then sorry.
