Yes - they are classic infectious diseases which can be transmitted in aerosol form and caught from other people.

whatever virus or bacteria caused those problems could be spread by droplets---coughing, sneezing. that's why people should cover their mouths when they cough and/or sneeze and why others should wash their hands frequently. Just because your exposed to the same 'germ' doesn't mean you'll get the same illness always
