I believe that you have to go through your doctor and get a prescription for a new one. Then you can go through a medical supply company. Usually the insurance company will rent this for you, then when it becomes long term they will buy it. I have not had to use a Nebulizer for years, but when I used one daily this is how it work in my case.

Perhaps both. A physician puts the number of refils on the prescription. This is so he/she can check on your progress after a certain time. Secondly, a prescription is valid for a limited time before a pharmacist will reject it. The time varies with type of drug and the pharmacy policy.

Then, your insurance drug plan has its own set of regulations.

In the case of a nebulizer, be sure you have a spare. The pharmacy should inform you, on the label at least, if this is your last refil.
