about 6 months ago i went to my doctor because i had trouble breathing after PE or after playing sports so the nurse did the normal tests you know blood pressure, temperature, stethoscope, and the doctor came in asked what my symptoms were and he said i had exercise induced asthma and gave me an inhaler without any extra testing. so i went back about 1 month ago because i was still having trouble breathing with exercise and also when i was just laying down. the nurse did the same regular tests the doctor asked my symptoms and gave me another inhaler and told me to schedule a follow up 1 month later and that was it. should my doctor have done something more or is this supposed to happen?

Many doctors will just diagnose you with asthma based on your symptoms, and without performing the proper tests. The only way to definitively diagnose asthma is a test called a Methacholine Challenge. It is administered in a pulmonary function lab. If your doc has not done this test, I would ask about it, and also ask for a referral to a pulmonologist. I've seen many, many, MANY general prac docs prescribe inappropriate inhalers for asthma symptoms. This could also be the problem. They read about the newest inhaler available and prescribe it to all their patients without reading the information about the medicine (ie: what symptoms it's used to treat, etc.)

Did the Dr talk to you about Peak Flow measurements to be done at home? Did they give you a spacer to use with your inhaler? I'm not saying you don't have exercise-induced asthma, you certainly have the symptoms, but there should be further testing done. Good luck:)

If you now have a rescue inhaler (albuterol) and a long lasting beta agonist like serevent or an inhaled steroid then the combination might well take care of your problem.
He should have done lung function testing at your initial visit.

I think drug companies are really pushing those inhalers and asthma-drugs, and doctors don't hesitate to diagnose/prescribe them. Everybody in the world now seems to have asthma. I hope you don't, or anything else serious. I'd see another doctor.

Sounds like whatever it is, it is progressing....get back to the doctor..go to a pulmonoligist. (Lung doctor) he will help you.
If not just go to an emergency room they will get someone in to help you.
