You need to see a doctor first to find out what is causing your snoring. You probably have a medical cause for your snoring and need to see your doc to figure out what is going. Once the doc rules out things like sleep apnea or sinus problems etc they can work with you to correct your snoring. You mentioned trying over the counter things but forgot to do the most obvious thing and that was to get checked at the docs office.

My Mother in Law, 5' tall and 168 lbs. had profound snoring and sleep apnea for 30 years that I knew of. She rarely slept more than 3 hours a night and actually snored when she closed her mouth to chew.

When I acquired her care (Alzheimer's) I got a physical and the Dr. bumped up her thyroid meds and over three months she lost 17 lbs. The snoring stopped and no more noises while eating.

I cannot determine your weight, from your question, but You must stop drinking alcohol. This relaxes the muscles and tissues in the mouth and throat and contributes to the snoring.

Eat by 7 in the evening. Nothing after seven. At 48 and 5'4" you should probably not weigh more than 140. So if you weigh more than that see if your Dr. will test your thyroid and try to lose some weight if you are over 140. If not just stop eating and drinking alcohol after 7 pm.

No euthanasia is not the answer althought with my m. in law I did consider murder many times. Ha Ha. She actually died of natural causes. But is really not funny when you are dealing with the problem. This problem can be solved but you have to be willing to work on it. If my m. in law could stop after probably a lifetime of snoring and she never ate late or drank alcohol, it was just a thick short neck and the extra weight that caused the problem.

When the neck tissues are thick with extra weight and then they relax from the alcohol, SNORING OCCURS.

Good Luck.

Snoring that loudly is usually a classic sign of sleep apnea. That happens when the soft palate actually closes off your throat and you suffocate, until you wake up and breathe. You need to speak to your doctor about this. Sleep apnea can lead to all kinds of health problems up to and including death! There is a machine called a CPAP that you can get for home use that will force your respiratory passages to stay open while you are sleeping. But you have to have a sleep study done first, and that is done in the hospital.

I have had many patients who have sleep apnea that they weren't aware of until I listened to their breathing patterns while they were sleeping. Then I let their doctors know and they get the sleep study done.

Some health problems associated with sleep apnea are: high blood pressure, heart disease, heart rhythm disturbances and irregularities, fatigue during the day, obesity, etc. Ask your husband if you do this while snoring... go for a short time 10-30 seconds without breathing and then take a big noisey snorty snort, then breath normally for a few more seconds and then repeat the pattern.

Anyhow, sleep apnea is dangerous and it can kill you. Please see your doctor about it ASAP. Alcohol will relax the muscles in the back of your throat and add to your problems as well. Lay off the wine.

Haha yep I snore because I wake myself up sometimes. Having a deviated septum causes alot of mine. When I am really tired, I snore.

Avoid drinking alcohol, eating heavy meals at least 4 hours before going to sleep. Nasal passages can be kept clear using a humidifier, inhaling steam, nasal strips and nasal sprays. A continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) machine may also help, but it is available only on prescription.More remedies

Who are you going to apply euthanasia to? Its an option but a tad extreme (maybe we should ask your hubby before we completely write it off as an option)

This will sort you out. Hubby will love you for it..... http://snipurl.com/stopsnore
