The left lung doesnt have a middle lobe as the right one does.
The left is made up of 2 lobes whereas the right is made up of 3 lobes.

The right lung is longer than the left lung primarily because of the position of the liver.the liver is the largest organ in the body siting directly inferior to the right lung.situational pressure exerted on the Rt lung by the bulky liver pushes the Rt lung further up ,exactly slightly above the clavicle, where as the Lt lung is slightly above the first rib.....the only instance where we can mention the lobes and fissures as well as the position of the heart is for a question of ,why the Rt lung is bigger that the Lt lung.

The right lung has three distinct lobes. On the left the heart sits and takes up about a third of the space. There is thus only room for 2 lobes plus a vestigial piece of lung the lingula.

Usally, it's the RIGHT lung that appears to be shorter, due to the bulk of the liver resting directly below the diaphragm on the right side.

Everyone has one lobe less on the left, otherwise there would be no room for the heart.

It's not exactly shorter, but it is slightly smaller and narrower on one side. This is to make room for the heart.
