There is a little muscular flap called the Epiglottis that covers over the entrance to the trachea (windpipe) when the swallowing reflex is activated, sending food down the oesophagus (throat) and into the stomach.
Sometimes the epiglottis doesn't close over firm enough and liquid enters the lungs and makes us cough.

Simple solution don't smoke while drinking, i understand the necessary to get high but killing yourself for that by inhaling alcohol, not the best way to die....
