Yeast is a living thing which is often mistaken for an animal but is actually a fungus. There should be no reason why you cannot as a vegan eat yeast. Marmite is vegan friendly.

As others have pointed out, yeast is a fungus. Fungi have no central nervous system, no nerves at all, not even one nerve cell in them. Besides, I'm not sure if a nerve cell would ever fit inside of a single yeast cell.

All vegetation is living, unless it's 1) dried out, or 2) rotted.

Regarding diet, veganism isn't abstaining from eating living things, veganism is abstaining from eating any animal or animal products. Veganism is a cruelty-free lifestyle, and since fungi cannot suffer, eat 'em up.

Yeast is a type of fungus. Bread is made with yeast, this is killed with baking. Marmite is made from beer dregs, this also contains yeast which has been killed through fermentation.

If you are worried about eating living things, all vegetation is made up of living organisms, then you wouldn't eat anything.

Well, I suppose that would depend on your reason for being a vegan. If it's because you don't think it's right to kill animals, to commercialize them, or because they can feel... Well, then yeast shouldn't be of any difficulty... Yeast is in fact a member of the animal kingdom as far as I know... but, is as close to a plant as an animal will ever get. I'm pretty sure it doesn't think or feel to be honest.

I suppose I would have to know the reason you're a vegan. If it's health, and you use marmite for the health benefits, then I doubt yeast is going to be harmful to you, and keep doing what you've been doing, and don't feel bad about keeping your body as healthy as you know how.

yeast is fungus.

Its growth rate is similar to small organisms so used to be mistaken for an animal, even as recently as 10 years a go.

Science has now proved though that there is nothing dodgy about it, both veggie and vegan can eat yeast or its femented by-products. ( pheeeewwww !! )

Yeast is a fungus. So yeah, it's fine. Consider it to be microscopic mushrooms.

I don't think I'd be the vegan I am if I wasn't allowed to kill all those poor intelligent microorganisms...

Isn't Yeast concidered to be a living organism? And as such couldn't You be concidered by some Vegans as "eating" an "animal", even though it is in fact a fungus?
