I'll back up Brick and Ashleigh! The only real difference is the cost and profit margin (much higher for 'organic'). Melody, I'm sorry but organic does NOT mean grown without chemical pesticides!! The EPA currently list over 50 chemical pesticides that are allowed to be used under the 'organic' label. It also doesn't mean non GMO since there is MASSIVE cross-pollination of GMO/non-GMO crops! Look up how many farmers Monsanto has sued upon finding "their gene products" in others farms (Monsanto scumbags sue farmers for violating Monsanto gene copyrights when their cr*p spread!). Remember a few years back when Starlink corn contaminated millions of tons of non-GMO corn? Did you know the solution to the problem was to stop testing for those genes in corn?

"Organic" means NOTHING!

Growing organic is better for you and better for the planet.

With the onset of highly industrialized commercial farming - we went with "monoagriculture." That is ONE kind of fruit or veggie grown on the same plot of land - ad nauseum. Which means pests that like that one kind of plant go hog wild.

Since the crop is never rotated false nutrients such as super high doses of nitrogen must be added to the soil which has been depleted.

There are 63 nutrients in good top soil. We replace 16 with artificial fertilizers.

Take spinach. Back in the early 1950s, spinach contained 75 milligrams of iron. By the late 1980s, with monoagriculture, it was down to 12 milligrams. Today, it's almost nil.

Whereas organic farmers rotate crops so no pest is allowed to grab a toe hold. Natural fertilizers are used. Natural pest control is used. Such as lady bugs, diatomaceous earth and praying mantises.

Now, lets talk about water. Comercial growers have their water subsidized by our goverment. Leading to overuse of water. The toxic pesticides and fertilizers are then washed into our rivers and streams creating "dead zones."

Organic growers are not yet funded by the government. Hopefully they will be soon. They are forced to be more frugal with their water. So none is wasted.

Since organic fruits and veggies are grown on a rotation basis, their nutrient content can be higher. Their toxins lower.

If you're buying commercially grown fruits and veggies, washing isn't good enough. You need to peel everything. With lettuce, toss out the first four layers of leaves. Pesticides are meant to stay on. So they soak in.

Also, organic farmers do not use genetically engineered produce. Who wants a tomato that's been grafted with animal DNA to give it a "will to live?" Corn that's been grafted with germ DNA so it produces its own poison?

The difference between them is nil. How they are grown is different. As you probably have read they use less pesticides on Organic. Organic does use pesticides but only the approved ones by the USDA.
Bottom line the fruits and veggies are the same as far as nutrients, minerals, calories , and etc. The non organic would have some very low level pesticide on their surface but well below any concern to health.

Basically it is the farming practices. Organic means that no chemical pesticides were used in the growing of the fruits or veggies. It also means that the food has not been genetically modified, as so much is nowdays. Pesticides and genetically modified food have been linked to cancer and other health problems in several studies. Organic is definitely healthier if you can find it. Hope that helps! : )

What I think your asking is - Whats the benefits of organic compared to non-organic. In short discourse, organic is free of harmful chemicals that overtime can cause major diseases. These chemicals speed up the production of product (eggs, carrots, ect.) But leave the consumer with less nutrients, and more "fillers". The Mayoclinic web-link I posted below explains in further detail.
