My boyfriend is trying to order from a chinese menu and cannot figure out what these are called. He says the stuff wrapped around the outside is 'like seaweed or something' and that sometimes they have 'like shrimp stuff or tofu or something' in the center instead of rice. Can you help?

It's probably some type of sushi. Sushi is made by taking a piece of seaweed and putting a layer of sticky rice on it. Then you can add several different fillings in it, from tofu to salmon to cucumbers and eggs. It all depends on personal taste and what the consumer can eat. Then the sushi 'log' is cut up into small pieces. Hope this helps you!

It is Japanese not Chinese and it is called a California Roll. It usually has seafood around it then rice then a filling in the center such as shrimp, crab meat, or cucumber. However, there are also inside out California Rolls that have rice on the outside. The supplies to make them can be found in an Asian Grocery store and you can google California Roll or Sushi for more information.
You're Welcome and Good luck finding them.

alwaysmoose is right - it's called nor mai gai...it is served at dim sum. It is a sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves and steamed. The stuffing would consist of chinese sausage, chicken, mushroom, pork, dried shrimp - this varies at different restaurants. Another variation of this is something we call "juung" - it is a "chinese tamale" - it is wrapped in bamboo leaves instead of corn husks, the stuffing is similar to nor mai gai, but this is boiled for hours - YUMMY.

its called sushi. but they have many different kinds and with different stuffings. but you can get it from a sushi place. just describe what you want and they also have different kinds of fish stuffed in between it, allong with the rice. that sounds great right now. I would love some sushi too. but their expenssive though. if you go out for sushi dinner, it will easily cost you close to a hundred bucks. but, yum yum.

individually i'm prepared on the common ole chicken and broccoli with rice. theres often some form of sauce on it too, no longer duck sauce or soy sauce, something else, yet i forget what. and of path, a fortune cookie! (which certainly do no longer flavor that super, its greater basically the assumption of ingesting them thats super lol)
