My older sister was over last week and she used my bathroom A LOT... took a shower in there and everything. Her and I are close, but I guess not that close. She was on my computer and went onto her dating site that she just joined and she kept telling me not to look at the site and then if I figured out what and why she was on there, not to tell anyone. (I slipped and told my friend about it because he asked how she been) But anyways... I went back to that site after she left and I found out that my sister has Herpes. I was just wondering if I can and could have got herpes from sharing the same shower and toilet (not to be gross) as her?

I know it's an STD and you can only catch it if you have been sexually active... I'm not that stupid. But at the same time, I could have sworn that I heard you could get it that way also. I'm just asking to make sure you can or can't get it from that... that's all. Nothing wrong with wanting to know and making sure.

Generally, a person can only get HSV-2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection. Transmission can occur from an infected partner who does not have a visible sore and may not know that he or she is infected. HSV-1 infection of the genitals can be caused by oral-genital or genital-genital contact with a person who has HSV-1 infection.
That is, don't kiss her or have sex with her and you won't likely contract the disease.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.
Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

I lived with my sister for 4 years after she caught it. Used the same toilet, shower, and alofa. Never caught the virus. You haven't caught it. There is no risk for her to use your toilet. If it was like that then you must realize that the whole world would be infected. Pulic bathrooms a person that has the Herpes virus has sat on everyone of those toilets. The would transfer fast if it was like that but it is not. Don't worry about it so much. She would of told you that you can't do something to make sure that she didn't give her burden to you. I know have a sister like that to.

No you can't. In fact you can not get ANY STDs from a toilet seat.
Herpes can only be passed to a person two ways - sex (vaginal, oral and anal) and by DIRECT skin to skin contact the the infected area.
I have had genital herpes for over 6 years now. I lived with my parents and brothers for most of those 6 years and NONE of them even got the virus from me from using the toilet, sink, shower, etc., after me. Even other family members, boyfriends, and friends NEVER got the virus from me from using the toilet after me. The virus just can't be spread that way.
You can always wipe down the toilet seat with a disinfecting wipe if it makes you feel any better. But, trust me, it just doesn't get spread that way.

It is actually skin to skin contact, so although you do not necessarily have to have sex to catch it you are not going to catch it from a toilet seat. 90% of adults are positive for herpes in the mouth. So, it is exceedingly likely you already have this(oral and genital are essentially identical.) The point being you can show affection to ur sister without much worry.

the herpes that turtles and tortoises can carry is not transmitted to humans, as long as you keep the enclosure clean and remember to wash your hands after handling your tortoise then you should not get any thing from your pet, in over 30 years of tortoise keeping i have never caught anything from tortoises, your biggest risk is salmonella but with good hygiene this should not be a problem either, hope this helps to calm your fears, best of luck honey.

Herpes is STD which means Sexually Transmissible Disease. So it means that you can't have it not unless you had sexual contact with someone who has herpes.
