i was sleeping, and my girlfriend woke me up and asked me why i was shaking. i realized my heart was beating way too fast. i started to panic. went to the hospital, had an EKG, and some chest X-rays. everything came back normal, they prescribed me Ativan.

this is the 6th day since then, and i've been back to the hospital twice, my heart will not calm... and of course the axietysteps in next. does anyone know what i can do. i have not had one peaceful moment. no exaggeration. because of the Ativan, i have trouble breathing when i sleep, and wake up to rapid heartbeat, im always shaking. and always clammy. i do the breathe through the nose thing, as well as shutting the mouth. however, nothing seems to be working. can someone please advise some helpful tactics.

I think you need more tests. Having anxiety attacks in your sleep you either have way too much stress in your life or maybe have some thyroid thing going on. This causes lots of anxiety for you even more so. I had lots of panic attacks but I never took medication for it.
Try putting music on and not smoking or drinking cafein ( if you do) close to bedtime.

What is the source of your anxiety? This is going to sound cliche, but try to relax. Maybe listen to some calming music and pray or meditate, watch a funny movie or two, or talk out what is bothering you with someone. Sometimes it helps to confide in someone. Are you sure nothing is medically wrong? Then you will be fine. Just try and take some deep, calm breaths. Sometimes when I'm emotionally disturbed I write poetry and I feel better once I do that usually. I hope that you get better soon. Just know that it'll be okay, or if you don't feel that way, then just keep telling yourself that until you do believe it. Don't dwell on bad thoughts or worry, that'll just stress you more likely. Sometimes reading books takes my mind off of things when I become absorbed into reading them. Hope you find something that works for you to calm down. It's not about ignoring the problem or problems, but about coming to peace with them perhaps. Don't overwhelm yourself.

I feel for you. Anxiety is horrible. And if you keep having those attacks it will trigger depression/ Adavan will most likely make you sleepy/groggy. Get checked by your doctor, go to an anxiety group. Then, if need be, get a good phsychiatrist who can prescribe correct medications for you. It's very difficult to live with anxiety. You probably have to much stress in your life.
Good luck to you.

I cannot help with what it maybe but think you should either return to the hospital or find a doctor. I suspect the causes of such symptoms are many and varied.

try a mug of warm milk before bed - may help you relax. anxiety is a tough thing to deal I know.

You obviously need to see a doctor and get more tests run. There is something wrong and I think it is MORE than anxiety attacks. You have an underlying medical condition that is bringing on the attacks.

Try breathing slowly into a brown paper bag - that helps.
