Yes, you can get them in your mouth just as you can on your genitals.

Are cold sores really "herpes"?

Yes. cold sores are caused by a type of the herpes virus, but, it is rarely the same virus strand that causes genital herpes.

Cold sores are typically caused by Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1).

Genital herpes on the other hand is usually caused by a different strand of the virus called Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2).

However, it is possible to transfer the different viruses to other areas of the body. HSV1 (or cold sores) can be transferred to the genitals through oral sex. In the same way, HSV2 (or genital herpes) can be transferred to the mouth.

It's definitely possible!

Herpes simplex virus 1 is typically cold sores, while herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes. I say "typically" because both herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 can cause BOTH cold sores and/or genital herpes.

If you or your partner were to give the other one oral sex it is definitely possible for that person to develop cold sores.

I have had genital herpes for over 6 years now. My fiance has had it about 1 1/2 years. We give each other oral sex (never when either of us is on an outbreak though) and neither of us has EVER developed cold sores. I have never had a cold sore in my life.

But just because my fiance and I have never developed cold sores doesn't mean you and your partner won't either! Be careful and be safe! Good luck!

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 5 yrs ago, whilst I was still attending college and had a dumb one-night stand. I know loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/c45Q7 everything changed.

Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the hsv from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This system provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

You absolutely can get the virus in your mouth too. This is not something you want to risk. If you have genital herpes you should use condoms even for oral sex. Its bad enough that you have it on your genitals, you don't want it in your mouth too. You can pass it even when you don't have a outbreak.
