As a healthcare provider I can tell you that on any given day in the office I am inundated with pharmaceutical sales representatives. All of them could pull out any number of such research articles which give evidence that the expensive drug they are promoting is better than the inexpensive drugs....or their rival expensive drugs. It is part of my job to decide for myself which would be better for my patients. I have a subscription to a newsletter called the 'Prescriber's Letter'. It is not financially backed by any drug company and attempts to provide us healthcare providers with unbiased information. I read the articles, I observe the results I get with my patients when I prescribe the drug. I try to make sure that the expense of the drug is worth it to the patient. As you can tell....you have asked a great question........one that the medical community rangles with everyday. And like everything else in medicine, there are very few black and white answers....just gray.
