You are not getting better ,I guss of following reasons;1}you have underline chronic lung disease;such as copd, asthma, and you are a heavy smoker.2) the antibiotic you been taken may not right for the bud you have;z pak only for 5 days not as you say for a week.3)you may developed sever bronchitis. You may need chest x-ray to r/o pneumonia.and sputum culture and sensitivity test to find the right antibiotic.

A lot of what is going around lately is viral, not bacterial. In which case, antibiotics will not help. Viruses just have to run it's course. You can treat the symptoms but your body may just need extra time to fight it off. Zithromax and prednisone are both good meds (zithromax has always worked wonders for me). If you're still having shortness of breath, your doctor may give you an inhaler to use until these symptoms clear up. The inhaler (such as albuterol or combivent) is a medication to help open the airways and relieve your shortness of breath.

My best advice: see your Dr again. Get plenty of rest and fluids. Treat the symptoms as best as you can (aspirin, cough syrup, etc.) Hopefully you'll be feeling better soon, but there are some nasty viruses going around.

I feel your pain. I grew up with crappy sinuses, so I am used to chronic sinusitis, but this year was horrible all around. Sinus probs, coughing, bronchitis, all too frequently. I thought it was just because we have a child in daycare, or thought when the cat died it would clear up, but it has just been horrible and too frequent. It's either something the CDC isn't telling us about, or those darn terrorists again. It affects smokers and non-smokers alike, so it can't be just that. I am on a mission to erradicate germs and dust from our airtight, sealed up home by any means...UV light, HEPA filters, Ozone in moderation, etc...
