It is a sweetener, just like sugar, so it's almost all carbohydrate but it's absolutely loaded with minerals. I wouldn't increase your intake but when used in place of sugar it is somewhat healthier and does definitely add flavor quality to many things.
I wouldn't use it as a regular source for minerals and am posting the information just for information.

Blackstrap molasses is a sweetener that is actually good for you. Unlike refined white sugar and corn syrup, which are stripped of virtually all nutrients except simple carbohydrates, or artificial sweeteners like saccharine or aspartame, which not only provide no useful nutrients but have been shown to cause health problems in sensitive individuals, blackstrap molasses is a healthful sweetener that contains significant amounts of a variety of minerals that promote your health.

The main benefit is that it is high in iron,is easily digested and is a source of energy. There is also the fact that as it is derived from sugar it comes with high calories. It is a close relative of black treacle which in olden days was given in the spring as a cleanser after the winter. " Brimstone and treacle." Pretty powerful.
