I should add the majority of this crowd is international and upscale & will have very specific tastes preferences ,ex. they will prefer imported beers to domestics, guiness stout, etc. grey goose, etc.

my stepdaughter used to be a bartender and will be helping out as well as my cousin, my background is in fine dining but I just kind of want to get my feet wet and keep up with them. They both know how to make specific drinks but we are in different states getting together about a week before the event and trying to coordinate our expertise. thanks for all who contribute!

you need to start with the basics - rum, scotch, vodka, gin and rye. You'll need some vermouth for martinis/manhattans, some grand marnier/cointreau/triple sec for those ever popular cosmopolitans and go with your choice of about 4 more flavoured varieties... keep the book close cuz you'll get some strange requests. Oh, and galliano is a nessecity for the collins family of drinks.... Good luck and happy partying!

Most people like the basics:

Vodka and cranberry juice
Gin and orange juice
Kahlua and cream
dark liqours and cola (rum, hennesey, etc.)

also a lot of vodkas come in different flavors now which is pretty cool, there is vanilla, orange, apple, and many more.

a really fruity drink that is simple and delicious is malibu rum and pineapple juice.

Ingredients for a White Russian
Vodka
Coffee liqueur
Light cream
Quantities for one drink:
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Coffee liqueur
Light cream
Blending Instructions:
Pour vodka and coffee liqueur over ice cubes in an old-fashioned glass
Fill with light cream and serve

just because it is an open bar, doesn't mean you have to stock everything that anyone would ever want. Plenty of beer (a couple of kegs is good).. 3 boxes of wine...white, red, and maybe a zinfandel. 2 each of 1.75 liter bottle of vodka, whiskey, and either gin or rum. Mixers are just soda, coke, fruit juices, tonic if you have the gin, and limes. For 200 people, figure enough mixers, or total drinks to 3 per person

Check out www.webtender.com for drinks. 1,000 different ones to chose from and you can just list what ingredients you have to get ideas to. You can choose drinks just containing rum, whiskey, etc.. This will help you narrow the search and eliminate ones you don't want so you won't have so many to look through.

or keep it simple...

wine, beer and non alcoholic stuff; and maybe one specialtiy drink... like cosmos, or mojitos or , margheritas, something. Or, if you have the cash... hire a bar tender and save yourself a whole lot of grief.
