Breathing steam from a bowl (with a towel over your head to keep it in) will loosen secretions a lot. If your nose is blocked too add a menthol crystal (available at chemists) to the water to breathe easily again

Musinex is good for thinning mucus and coughing. (it's over the counter)

If your cough gets worse then you might have to go to the hospital or doctor to get a presciption of Prednisone.

I had a really nasty cough for 4 months straight, I was wheezing and i was gasping for air. I DO NOT have alleriges or asthma, and I DO NOT smoke. I have no freakin clue what the heck was wrong with me, but the Prednisone cleared it up a bit and made me feel better. Now I can breathe a bit better without gasping for air. The doctor also prescribed an inhaler for me.

I hope your cough does not get bad enough that you need an inhaler and prednisone.

GET WELL SOON, hun.

Try a humidifer...for better results, add salt to the water, but not too much or it will create too much steam and may damage the unit. Just a pinch or two depending on the size of the water tank. Don't point it directly at your face, but keep it in the room with you when you sleep.

Drink LOTS OF WATER. and Guifenisen or Musinex over the counter... it will help break it up. have someone pat pretty hard on your back and tehat too can help break it up so you can cough it out. but it could require other meds if it is an infection, Such as Antibiotics
