The moment saliva (spit) comes into contact with your mucus membrances in your mouth or your own saliva, that one second, or one millisecond is all it takes for bacteria to be transferred.
But it depends on the type of kissing. Pecks and shorter kisses will still transmit bacterial diseases (the Cold, Mono, etc) as well as some virals (the Flu, Herpes).
Deep kissing, french kissing or make out sessions can increase your chances of receiving some pretty bad STDs such as gonorrhea, HPV, and Chlamydia to name a few if they have acquired an STD orally.
So there is a lot of wiggle room in this question. A couple things, if you are worried about getting an STD, please know that generally mouth to mouth contact doesnt spread STDs like it spreads the cold or mono or other bacterial infections.
Rather, STDs are spread through genital to genital, genital to mouth, hand to genital contact. So oral sex, for instance, can easily transmit STDs. Then, if you performed oral sex on your boyfriend who had Syphilis. Well, now your oral cavity and your throat contains the virus, so you can now pass it on to someone you engage in make-out with, but the guy you got it from, cant because his is contained to his genitals. Make sense?

You shouldn't worry how long his spit will stay in your mouth. That doesn't matter. Anything that you can catch from him will be transmitted while you are kissing. Don't worry so much. I used to kiss alot and all I used to get were colds from time to time. Just make sure they are not s l u t s. Lets see...from kissing you can catch a cold, the flu, herpes, mono... and make sure he takes good care of his teeth. If he doesn't he could have gingivitis and that would make his gums bleed and then you have a whole new problem to worry about when kissing. You should be fine though. As long as you know him well enough and know that he doesn't sleep around or mess with too many other girls....

Well unless the other person has a cold or a virus like mono. Those are the some of the ones you have to worry about. These are able to be contracted as soon as you touch one another mouths together. Any STD is hard to get unless the person has a open sore in the mouth and/or bleeding in the mouth. Sores are the bg indicator. Infection is easy to transfer just make sure that you stay healthy and you will be fine. Good luck!
