I am a Texas mom who has a teenage daugther and I have been inside the schools and have listened to these kids. These kids know more about sex than you can imagine. So many have even had sex already. Hello these are seventh graders. Do you honestly believed that they went to mom and dad and ask if it was okay. Get real I didnt go to my parents and tell them that I was getting it on. You say it is all in the raising. It's all in the pressure and how strong these kids are after being torn apart inside. One more thing I lost my virginity to rape where is say no protect that. I have hpv and whether I got from him, my ex-husband and his picks, or the man that I love I will never know because science can not find this virus on men. Plus it can sleep. Due to the fact that I know how cruel the world can be I will vaccinate my daugther for every thing I can to protect her as well as putting on a condom. She knows the I'm not saying it is alright, I am trying to save her life.

gardisil is best if given before a girl ever has sex. it's to prevent the four strains of hpv that cause herpes and cervical cancer. almost every female will have one strain of hpv before she is thirty, but those strains tend to resolve themselves. its the four strains that cause herpes and cervical cancer that you need to worry about, hence the new vaccine. getting the vaccine in no way encourages your daughter to have sex. get with the program

I'm not sure that all these people are against the sexual concept of the vaccine. They are more concerned with the unknown side affects since this is so new. All people I know say they will not vaccinate their girls for this reason. They are finding all these reactions such as autism to the regular childhood vaccines. I'm just scared they will find out this may harm some people in the long run.
I think it's good you communicate with your daughter about sex. My parents were very open about it and that is the reason I didn't have sex until I was 18 and engaged. But I did tell my mom when I had sex.

You are a good mother and I agree with you totally. Children have the mentality that if my parents say no that is more that I want to do it. Kids do get pressured into a lot of things. Why make a war into something that is not good but not the end of the world. I think about if I don't talk to my child and let them know what the do's and don'ts are then they will get into something that will hurt the rest of there life. It is better to educate early then to not at all. Good question! You are a great women. That is how I am too.

Then go ahead and vaccinate her. HPV is the most common STD out there and it is a main cause of cervical cancer.
The shot cannot be administered to any female over the age of 26 because by that age the chance of having contracted is so great.
Teenagers are going to do what they want to do if they think they can get away with it. I say you might as well do your best to keep her healthy and safe and I applaud you for wanting to look out for the best interest of your daughter

Yup, the vaccine is a good thing. Good for you for getting it for her! Are some parents just idiots and think that they are THAT good?!?! Sorry, but the majority of kids out there are having sex at a very early age. It would be nice to protect them. Like you said, kids aren't going to come up to their parents and tell them that they are doing it. I have great parents and I never told them.

P.S. I'm sorry you had to lose your virginity that way. That must've been horrible....

You are doing the best thing for your daughter. Keeping the communication lines OPEN first. Protecting her from the chance of HPV. I mean come on wouldn't we get our kids shots for HIV or STD's just like we do for Measles, Mumps, Polio...how long has polio been controlled by a vaccine??? They even have the Chicken Pox shots now and even as adults we can get a Shingles shot to provent use from getting shingles. I want my kids to be as healthy as possible and they are kids they are going to "EXPERIMENT" sooner or later why not protect them now. Rather then have them face a sometimes embarrasing or even DEADLY Disease. My neice is 14, she gave birth to her son on her 14th birthday... Her mom should have talked to her, she has HSV and now a son. It is not giving permission it is giving protection.
