HPV (Human papillomavirus) is one of the most common STDs around today. I've read up to 80% of the world will have it at some point in their life.
There are over 100 known kinds of HPV - most are harmless, but a handful can cause health problems. HPV can cause warts including genital warts, hand and feet warts. It also causes cancer including cervical cancer (the most common), head, neck, penile and anal cancer.
There is NO cure for HPV, but, most women are able to actually get rid of the virus. Their bodies basically "fight it off".
If you are concerned you have HPV is it SUPER important that you get tested. The main concern with HPV is the cervical cancer it can cause. Cervical cancer is the second deadliest cancer in women (after breast cancer). Getting an annual pap smear can detect any early signs of cervical cancer - like abnormal cells on the cervix.

HPV is the most common std. 80% of people will become infected at some point in their lives. there are about 30 strains that are sexually transmitted. some cause genital warts, while others cause abnormal cells on the cervix. this is what a pap smear tests for HPV. Most healthy people's immune systems are able to wipe the virus out. Kinda like the chicken pox, once you have it it won't come back. but some strains are more dangerous than others. there is no cure, but once your body fights it off it will lie dormant in your body and you will not be able to pass it on. the new vaccine protects you against 4 strains of hpv not all 30 so just b/c you have the vaccine doesn't mean you won't get it. it protects you against 70% of cervical cancer cases and 90% of genital warts cases.

HPV is a STD. From What I understand you get it from a man. For women, most times you will never know you have it and usually goes away on its own. However some types of HPV will cause cervical cancer. For the men it doesn't do anything to them. But they say almost 80 percent of women have it and dont even know it

Yes it is an STD. No it is not curable. Worst case scenario it can cause cancer in women and genital warts in both sexes. There is a new gardasil vaccine out to prevent HPV but it does not cure it. A lot of people have HPV.
