I think because high blood pressure does not cause immediate symptoms and because the symptoms are subtle, people have a hard time grasping the importance of controlling blood pressure. The risks of uncontrolled blood pressure are much more serious than having a toxic reaction to medications.

It pre-disposes you to heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, erectile dysfunction, and macular degeneration...all pretty important functions in nearly anyone's day-to-day life.

Every day I see the effects of poorly controlled high blood pressure over years of time. Unfortunately once the damage is done there's very little we can do to reverse it. I suspect those people (who now have congestive heart failure or kidney failure and can't walk across the room) wish they could do it all over again. This is not unlike smoking. All seems to be okay until its too late, THEN people want to get it fixed...of which there is no fix.

One thing in this world is that there is no shortage of blood pressure medications - there is probably over a hundred choices. So work with your doctor to find one that works, that is safe, and that has none or nearly no side effects. This is entirely achieveable. Good luck.

Beta blockers are the most common B/P medi's used, they are not without thier known dangers, I have a feeling you know this already.
I don't know of any web sites off hand to guide you, still, you have access to the web,,,, USE it.

This is an extremely potent medicine. To use it or not, needs considerable thought. For convienience sake, yes , of course, if the high B/P is at such a level, then maybe no other choice.

If it is still managable, there are many dietary adjustments that can be made to drastically reduce that level. I do suggest a little more research if you are unsure,,,,do find a doctor you have a good feeling with, talk about it, a lot!!
Drugs are drugs are drugs,,, if at the end of your quest you see there is no other alternative, then go for it. Just think we should all take it upon ourselves to look more closley into these matters where poss. Doctors are wonderfully clever and know ever such a lot but they are also human and in a profession, that is hugely demanding.... They are often tired, overworked and may have thier own problems that detract them from each individual case.
So, I suggest to you, not to take the dr's word as law and only take such medi's as when absolutely neccessary. That way it may still work on you,,,?!!

taking medication for anything carries inherent risk. But, high blood pressure is a known killer, and no medication side effect, other than an allergic response, is going to kill you. Call medication the lesser of two evils.

very rerely are the meds dangerous.. some have some side effects. like insomnia. or erection disfunction. but many are short lived and your body will adjust to the meds and overcome nmany of the side effects.. I have been taking blood pressure meds for about 10 year with absolutely no side effects tht lasted for any amount of time..diabetes meds are different tho. they have more lasting side effects than any other meds

There is an herbal formula for lowering blood pressure. I use it and it works! A combination of--
capsicum
garlic
ginger root
eleuthero root
goldenseal root
parsley leaf

I buy mine already mixed up from ' Annette@herbs2yourhealth.com ', and they ship.
Best of luck.

Life itself is risky, a diagnosis of hypertension is dangerous and will kill you faster and without notice than any medication you take to treat it.
