I'm a vegetarian, but I don't freak out over accidental, incidental gelatin, and I don't think it's a good idea to.
I assure you you regularly eat small quantities of bugs. Think of that as being in a similar category.
And sometimes it's just not realistic to avoid it -- most medication capsules are made of gelatin. You can find overpriced supplements that don't use gelatin capsules, but prescription medication? No. 'Feeling really bad' over taking antibiotics would suck.
The answer here is to learn to relax a bit, not to end up hyper-vigilant and miserable over it.
There'll probably be some thumbs-down on this, but I doubt many vegetarians are successful in completely avoiding gelatine. I've seen it in _quiche_, for heavens' sakes.

I have many times, the latest a few weeks ago, my sister informed me that Altoids have gelatin. I was disappointed because I didn't read the label just that once, and it just so happened to be the time there was gelatin in it.
Just read the labels of EVERYTHING you put in your body. Many things have beef fat, or gelatin. Here are some things...
*Altoids
*Skittles
*Starburst
*Marshmellows
*Mini Wheats
*Candy Ciggarettes
*Frosted Pop Tarts
You can find many Vegan substitutes on the Internet or at co-ops. I treat myself to Vegan Marshmellows every year for my birthday.

I have accidentally eaten gelatin. They seem to slip it into a lot of foods. I was especially disappointed to discover that Planter's Dry Roasted Peanuts contain gelatin! I used to love those. Now I have switched to a different brand to avoid the gelatin.
You just have to check labels, and if you mess up don't stress over it.

Just remember to look at labels and ask people if it contains gelatin, marshmallows, conversation heart, many kinds of desserts and such might have gelatin, that is what you should watch out for, luckily cakes generally don't have gelatin, neither does most drinks. And obviously vegetables and fruits don't have gelatin. You especially have to watch out for many kinds of canned asian desserts, they often contain gelatin.

HI,
Please forgive yourself for not eating gelatin. Things happen at times and one should not fret or worry about them.
As far as remembering to see labels, you will after this incident. You have to be aware of habits and things you are doing.
If you pick up something without awareness you may forget to see the labels. But the bright side is whenever you remember, you can return the unopened pack to the store. Or if you have opned it you can choose not to eat it.
:))
Enjoy!

i was eating lucky charm and was reading the ingredients and found out the marshmellows had gelatin...i puked it out..and i threw out the lucky charms , avoid jelly and marshmellow and read ingredients before eating it.
Also, most manufacturers have a symbol (green circle inside white square) indicating that the product contains no animal by-products, so look out for that as well

Don't feel bad. And don't let anyone else try to make you feel bad. Everybody messes up now and then. Live and learn. Chalk it up to a lesson. Dust yourself off and keep on going.
