Counseled for what?

If they are having a difficult time about it then sure. If maybe they are suicidal, or perhaps got the virus from say a rape and they want counseling then fine.

Other than that, why would they need to be counseled?

I have had the virus for over 6 years now. I got it right after I turned 17. Of course I didn't want the virus! But I've learned to deal with it and I'm living a happy great life. People seem to make herpes a huge deal when it's not. Sure, the sores are painful, but they heal. I haven't had an outbreak in 2 years now and I NEVER think of having the virus. It's honestly one of the last things on my mind. At least it doesn't cause cancer or isn't deadly like other STDs can be.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

If it causing extreme emotional turmoil, then I think counseling could help. The infected person must realize that 1 in 7 sexually active people in the US have this disease, although most are not aware of it.
