I just quit 5 weeks ago after almost 30 years. I use the patch, and a spray called smoke free (no nicotine) I drink a glass of water everytime i get a strong urge. That helps me be full too cause boy o boy, there is a taste to food! (after u quit) I rather lose pounds later than b like my mom on life support the past 2 mos. Stay away from smokers..suck on sugar free drops, tell everyone u quit, they will motivate u! Everyone said I would never do it. I dont say,,IM quitting smoking. I say I QUIT!

I smoked for about 16 years and haven't touched 'em in over five. I used zyban - it's an anti-depressant, but for some reason, it really kills the nicotine cravings. I only took them for about a month and still don't have any interest in smoking again - and most of my friends smoke!

I also recommend meditation just to help with the stress.

Good luck - you can do it! I did!

This is a more neurological issue, mostly you should throw away all of you're cigarettes etc. Then stay strong and fight. But don't use nicotine gum or pads. It is dumb to take the drug you're addicted to even if it is in a different form. You can get cancer in almost any part of your body. You'll become less fit and die because of smoking, its painful and I don't wish anyone to die like that so may this be a warning to keep you strong.

To stop smoking you really have to want to.

There are several methods:
The patch does work
Zantac is effective (because cigarettes taste like crap while on it
Acupuncture is VERY effective as it removes the need to smoke
Hypnosis also works.

But if you really don't want to stop you will restart smoking despite your efforts

The only people that I know that have stopped smoking successfully had to have a strong enough desire because it is very hard. I wish you all the best, stay strong and stay away from doing anything that makes you want to smoke the most. This is a decision you can REALLY be proud of.

Stay away from people that smoke... don't join them when they go to smoke, and don't be around them... it's tough and you know you want to but that's what my biggest problem was. Next... stop buying cigarettes. Throw away the ones you have. YES.. YOU WILL BE STRESSED but it's temporary. Any type of withdrawal sucks but it will eventually go away. If you don't have cigs around you what are you going to smoke?.. Last, give it time... That's how I quit.. saved money by doing it and did it cold turkey.. hope it helps

once you get up, take a cigarette lit it, close your eyes and smoke consciously. That is you should watch the smoke going to the lungs. you will feel the real pain in the lungs. When u want to smoke next time, remember the pain. Actually we become addict, because we never do anything consciously. Try this if you are not suffering from any chronic lung disease. All the best.

there are allot of good suggestions here....I quit 7 years ago for 5 yrs...the restarted (I know...DUMB ***), I used Zyban before, but I really had a desire to quit. you need that FIRST, I also kept myself busy. and stayed away from old patterns, such as hanging out with people who were smoking. if these people are your friends, they will commend your determination and understand.allot of water is good. you will need the extra hydration to get rid of the mucous and tar build up. you can do it if you believe in yourself . good luck!!
