If they are lucky and live in a coastal city, there is lots of very good and very fresh fish that they can use in their Japanese cuisine.
Also Indian rice is excellent, but if they prefer the slightly sticky variety they can buy Bhutan rice, almost anywhere in Delhi.
Indian vegetables are plentiful and many, and the fruit (although mostly seasonal) is very inexpensive by Japanese standards.
All right, no Kobe beef in India - but in the big cities you can often get excellent New Zealand lamb and Argentine beef (frozen).
It could be a lot worse - and then, there is always mind-blowing Indian food!
