If god hadn't meant us to eat meat it wouldn't taste so good
The bible says i must eat meat
We have hunted animals for 1,000's of years
I have canines therefore i NEED to eat meat
Plants feel pain as well you know
fish aren't animals
I can't be veggie because PETA are not nice people
Eating chicken is still ok for vegetarians
You NEED meat to survive
If we didn't eat meat all animals would die.
There you go, most of the meat-eating answer cliches. They can all stop answering now because very few of them bring anything new to the debate.
I, for one, do keep chickens, cows and sheep as pets. I'm lucky in that i have space to do so.
Many farmers would much rather keep animals in more humane conditions. It is the supermarket price ( and therefore the meat-buying public ) that drives them to have finance as the highest priority in thier animal husbandry. Most farmers hate what they are doing and cannot understand the general publics attitude to farm animals.. Most arable farmers have house cows/sheep as land companions..
All animals have great character, feelings, moods and companionship.
Humans have conditioned themselves to thinking its just cats and dogs so they can bury thier heads in the sand over the cruelty modern farming inflicts.
The only reason some modern farm animals wouldn't survive in the wild is because some of them are so messed up genetically to produce more meat/milk that they are not natural. All pure, natural breeds would survive quite happily.
Brennan Roy has a pretty weak arguement for not being veggie. What ? just because of a tiny minority of vocal veggies you are going to continue with your sponsorship of the meat industry. No conviction there, is there ?
I think you are referring to Vegan and Prouds answer. What exactly is wrong with that. He is prefectly right as far as i can see. He's not pushy or vocal, just stating the truth.
There are hundreds of millions of veggies in the world. How many really are so vocal that you cannot be associated with the WHOLE veggie diet ?
The majority of vegetarians are passive people who so not inflict thier views on others. This is a question in the VEGETARIAN and VEGAN section of this site. Of course people are allowed to be vocal here about those views. How many veggies go around the other sections slagging off meat- eaters ? The ONLY question i've ever seen in the other sections against meateaters is my question yesterday. and that was just a response to the meat-eaters who post in this section.
So, meateaters spend far more time pushing thier views on veggies. So, by your arguement, you WOULD be veggie because you'd want to disassociate yourself from those pushy meateaters.
i suspect your "reason" is just another one i need to add to my cliche list at the start of this answer.

Well, you make it sound like vegetarianism is possibly a religious test! However, I'm a devoted atheist. I don't eat animals out of sheer goodness- I don't need an incentive to do good. I do it because I know I can. I don't think anything or anyone should EVER have to give their one life (once again, atheist) for me. "Dumb" animal or not. It is not easier to maintain your weight, either. You WILL be lighter than if you ate meat, but you won't necessarily be able to maintain your weight. Trust me! My weight goes up and down like its white water rafting! And I do feel bad eating those "cute animals". However, I feel bad eating the ugly ones, too. Fish? Ick, what slimy, gross, creepy things. I still don't eat them! No,I don't think I could survive in the "old days". But, these aren't the old days, huh? I don't hate people back then for eating meat. They did what they had to. However, why not save lives now that you can do it healthily? Also, a vegetarian diet isn't stressful. At first, it is hard. But, as is any new thing you have to learn, right? But, after you "learn" to be a vegetarian, its smooth sailing with a clear conscience.

As always, people attack what they do not understand and what they couldn't manage to do themselves. It's just their pathetic attempt to convince themselves they're doing the right thing. Yes, there are too many animals in the world, but that's because we overbreed them for meat! Some idiots may think animals are here purely for food, but I believe they're here for us to learn from and enjoy.

If everybody carried on drinking milk we would still need a veal trade. There's no real point in being a veggie - be a vegan or an omnivore but do'nt try and have your cake and eat it.

I don't think that it is a foregone conclusion that animals have a purpose. They are not necessarily here to serve humans either as food or as pets. Maybe they are here for their own reasons. If you're irreligious, perhaps they are here for no reason at all.

If they could think they wouldn't be eating the animals to begin with! THey don't eat cows in India and they got lots of them. Maybe their meat eating brains think we'd be like that here with cows running all over the street but it wouldn't be that way because we could send india all our cows just like we're sending India our jobs. right?

If nobody ate meat how long would it be before we couldn't move for bumping in to animals and have no plant life left to feed on?
Okay, all the animals people eat are bred to be turned into food, they don't get pregnant naturally.
Why do people always say "I'm not going against evolution"
As per evolution thing goes, some times I really get confused about human nature. In last 10000 years, we have created morals, socities, laws....stuff which has nothing to do with animal nature but when it comes to eating, suddenly we are THE animal and it's against our nature? Guess what, animals kill to eat. I don't see humans killing each other for eating or for fun. Clearly, we have evolved culturally, mentally and physcially but somehow not foodwise because it's against the evolution eh! Guess what, lets go and kill anyone, eat anything, live anywhere, do whatever you want because thats what we did for thousands of years! Lets **** a 6 year old because we did that in past, lets burn people because they are witches or demons and stuff! It's astounding to even here this shitty logic that we were eating meat in past so we should do it now! Guess what, we weren't living in apartments and solving the mysteries of universe neither. So stop giving the nonsense logic about being omnivore and stuff because I really don't see people walking naked on streets or shooting other for fun. You love meat and you eat it. There is no other logic to support meat eating.

Meat eaters come up with all kinds of crazy reasons for not going vegetarian. Sam the Man is right. They just don't want to see the truth. Too scary for them.

There would still be animals around-- we don't eat alot of animals and they're around just fine. Your generalization makes no sense-- why would any omnivore think what you're suggesting. If we didn't eat meat, there would just be fewer cows, chickens etc since we wouldn't need to breed so many of them for food.
But forget that happening, we will most likely always be omnivores. Ya know, there is a reason we have canine teeth-- and it isn't just to eat veggies.
To each his/her own...

i think its ridiculous when people say that animals are only here for humans, are humans only here for animals? Why would humans think the world evolves around them? Humans are not God's ideal, i believe that.
