I've dated a guy for 3 weeks now, and I'm thinking about taking it a step further. how long should we use condoms if I'm on the pill?

Alright first off - abstinence is the only thing that is 100%. Using a condom is NOT always 100% effective. Things happen, such as a condom breaking. Also, some STDs are spread by just skin to skin contact, like herpes or HPV. So, even if the guy is wearing a condom, just the skin to skin rubbing can cause a person to contract a STD.

And, the pill DOES NOT protect against STDs. The pill ONLY prevents getting pregnant. And, even then, it is NOT 100% effective either.

Safest thing for you to do (if you are going to have sex) is ALWAYS use condoms and it wouldn't be a bad idea either to get on birth control. That way you are protecting yourself from both STDs and pregnancy. It's not 100%, but it is the safest thing other than abstinence. Good luck!

No 'sex' is not '100% safe' from getting stds/hiv when a man uses a condom ... and neither are YOU. I think that if you are 'on the pill' then you'll still need to have him 'use a condom' EVERY TIME YOU HAVE SEX until such time as you and he are both 'sure' that you and he are ALWAYS going to be together ... and then you 'may' stop using 'condoms' (and the pill, too, at least six months before you try to get pregnant) after the doctor finds that NEITHER OF YOU has any STD or HIV.

You should use a condom every time you have sex, even if you are on the pill. No method is 100% effective (even when used properly), both the pill and a condom have a small failure percentage (I know someone who got pregnant using both). As for STD's, the only 100% way not to get one is to not have sex.

sex is never 100% safe from stds/hiv. you can get it from oral sex, regular sex...whether or not you use a condom. you can still get pregnant when you use condoms and if you are on the pill. not birth control method is 100%

Abstinence is the only 100% effect protection against STD's and pregnancy - don't rely on percentages under that
