It's a sympatomimatic reflex which is initiated from the brain, which results in secretion of adrenaline glands, this gland in response secreates adrenaline, which has direct effect on the heart. The adrenergic receptors in the heart respond by increase of heart and peripheral vasoconstriction, this in turn forces the heart to beat at higher speed in order to expel the large volume of blood to beat faster.
