Well, I've searched around yahoo answers but couldn't really find much help that I didn't know about. Most of the times when I sing at home my voice sounds a little bit scratchy. Not like a sore throat, but...I guess I can't really find words to describe it. Well, I almost always have phlegm in my throat, and water doesn't really help get rid of it. In fact, most of the time, I try drinking a little water before singing and it makes my throat more dry and scratchy. My throat has been like this since I was about 11, so a little more than 2 years now. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the phlegm permanently?

hmm, I'm a singer and you're probably getting raspy cause you're singing from your throat rather than your diaphragm. I'd say give your voice a rest for a couple weeks. Try some honey to soothe your throat and lots of water daily. Try not to sing until it feels better and don't sing from your throat cause you can actually ruin your voice (even your speaking voice).

hmm this is interesting. so you like to sing but your voice sounds raspy. does orange juice do anything for you? have you tried eliminating candies and soft drinks from your diet? If not, I might talk to the doctor about this problem. I know a lady who had an excess of phlem in her throat and it turned out she has a rare sort of lung disease, which is not cancer, but she has to have surgery for it. check it out with your doctor, and if he cant give you any ideas. Then try to work with your raspy voice, maybe you can be the next louis armstrong.
