It seems I've been complaining about this a lot lately...

Most chocolate. If the US government would just allow vegetable fat in chocolate, all the cheap milk chocolate products would be phased out in favor of even cheaper tropical-oil chocolate products. And it's not like they'd be any less healthy!

I'm sick of having to go to a health food store and buy expensive dark chocolate.

Not that I don't like expensive dark chocolate :D

Most of 'em! There are *good* vegan alternatives for most of the additives that manufacturers use that make products 'off-limits'. In most cases the replacements add very little additional cost and can add more marketshare than just vegans if the makers are made to understand how a *small* change can add not just vegans but potential customers with food allergies! For the product you describe the milk powder is most likely being used primarily as filler with secondary benefits of mouthfeel, sweetness (from lactose) and a *very* slight addition of protein (calcium would be insignificant!). The replacement would be any starch (filler), any food gum (mouthfeel) and any sugar (excepting bone treated). I just looked up the product; If it were *my* company I'd replace the milk powder with Pinto bean powder as a *perfect* replacement!! In US terms it would add less than 1/2 cent per package (assuming batch runs of 1000 packages)!!

Of course that means the government would have even more warehouses stuffed to the roof with excess powdered milk that was purchased solely to maintain dairy prices.

And I'm NOT going to get started on my hassles over the IDIOTIC regulation of chocolate again!

I'm suprised there isn't a quorn alternative yet. I know quorn is made up of stuff with no binding property so they use tons of egg white.

But there must be something they could use, surely ?

Once they have a versitile product like quorn there would be a load of vegan alternatives on the market.

I suggest you start experimenting in the kitchen !.. You never know...I'll be watching Dragons Den - Series 3 and rooting for you.

Sorry to say it but i guess the Vegan ££ is not worth much. Nobody ever said having morals was popular.

I have enough problems with things not being veggie so goodness knows how you Vegans cope - hats off to you !

Totally agree! When I first became vegetarian there wasn't anything decent that was ready made...I remember we had to throw away some vege burgers after we cooked them 'cos they were sooo crap...we later saw a stray dog run off up the road with them! Eventually things got a lot better. So if they could improve on that, then, like you say, why not go a bit further and do decent vegan stuff!

no no i forgot the name of the brand but there is vegan chili.

you just have to look and look and look... not all grocers have it... you have to be anal about it... and then it's fickle..

if i come across these again.. i'll just post you a notice what brand it is... here only 2 grocers have these vegan dishes.

and they aren't exactly bargains.

but they good.
