The term does not ring a bell. However, there are two terms that you may have heard;
1. Ferritin- a form of iron in the blood indicating total iron body stores.Therefore, low ferritin means iron defeciency. It drops early during the development od iron deficeincy before aerum iron and transferrin become abnormally low. When it is high, it indicates iron overload.
The only time it does not coincide with iron stores is in liver disease such as hepatitis, and tumors.
So an increased ferritin must be interpreted by the doctor who can match it with the patient's overall health.
2. Serotonin-
Definition of Serotonin
Serotonin: A hormone, also called 5-hydroxytryptamine, in the pineal gland, blood platelets, the digestive tract, and the brain. Serotonin acts both as a chemical messenger that transmits nerve signals between nerve cells and that causes blood vessels to narrow.
Changes in the serotonin levels in the brain can alter the mood. For example, medications that affect the action of serotonin are used to treat depression.
Since you classified your question under diabetes, I think you were most likely referring to ferritin, since serotonin is usually associated with mental health problems.

What is a random blood sugar test? A random blood sugar test measures your blood sugar at any point in time, not necessarily a certain amount of time after a meal, snack or beverage. What's normal? A normal random blood sugar result is lower than 100 mg/dL. What level suggests prediabetes? If your random blood sugar level is higher than 100 mg/dL but lower than 199 mg/dL, you may have prediabetes. What level suggests type 1 or type 2 diabetes? A random blood sugar level of 200 mg/dL or higher suggests either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Remember, your blood sugar level alone isn't enough to differentiate between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Your doctor may do other tests to determine which type of diabetes you have.

You mean "Ferritin"?
Ferritin is a protein in the body that binds to iron; most of the iron stored in the body is attached to ferritin. Ferritin is found in the liver, spleen, skeletal muscles, and bone marrow. Only a small amount is found in the blood. The amount of ferritin in the blood indicates the amount of iron stored in your body.
If a blood count indicates that your hemoglobin and hematocrit are low, and especially if your red cells are smaller and paler than normal (microcytic and hypochromic), iron deficiency is the likely cause of the anemia. Ferritin and other iron tests can be used to confirm the diagnosis.
The test also may be ordered when your doctor suspects that you have iron overload. This may be caused by hemochromatosis (a hereditary disease) or hemosiderosis (accumulation of iron due to another disease or multiple blood transfusions).
Ferritin levels are low in patients with iron deficiency.
Ferritin levels are high in those with hemochromatosis,

Nikki, since there is no word in medicine as "seratin", and since you mention "in blood", my guess is you're searching for causes of high blood serum ferritin. Ferritin is a crystalline iron-containing protein that functions in the storage of iron and is found especially in the liver and spleen. The test it to determine your body's total iron storage capacity when your doctor suspects that you may have too little or too much iron in your system A blood sample drawn from a vein in your arm. You may be instructed to fast for 12 hours before the test; in this case, only water is permitted. Taking in more iron will increase the level of iron in your body. If the level of iron in your body increases and is more than your body requires, then your body will begin to store more iron in the form of ferritin. High levels may also be seen in alcohol abuse, acute hepatitis, and infections.
