All cells require oxygen, when oxygen is denied, the cells start to die.Cardiac muscle also needs oxygen, therefore when the oxygen-co2 exchange is no longer possible, red blood cell, which are the only cells in the body able to carry oxygen, are loaded with co2,the body dies.Oxygen is the catalyst that allows sugar to give up its energy for cell function. When you run out of oxygen, suger can't be converted to energy and the cells die.

People are considered dead when the electrical activity in their brain ceases. When electrical pulses are not received from the brain, the heart will stop beating. Oxygen deprivation for roughly seven minutes is sufficient to kill the cerebral cortex. If the heart stops beating due to some other causes, the brain will not get oxygen and the brain death will also occur.
