Take a hot bath with mineral salts. The steam will rise in your nostrils and clears mucous.

Try some sage or thyme tea. Just take the herbs and tear them up a little and steep them in hot water for about 5 minutes. Add a little honey and sip it. Alternatively you can place boiling water in a bowl and sit with your face over it with your head covered with a towel to make it tentlike. Add some vicks vaporrub to the water and breath in the steam.

Robitussin works well for me to thin secretions so they are easier to get rid of. It has in it Guaifenesin, which used to be available as a generic drug. It then was reformulated, new patent, expensive brand name Humibid. Humibid is now not covered, insurance co says it's available OTC. I also tried Mucinex which doesn't work as well for me. Good luck. I know what you're going through.

just drinking enough fluids is one of the best way to keep the mucus flowing. be sure to drink lots of water and fruit juice. avoid dairy based foods.. they make it worse.
Hot tea, helps soothe the throat, and break up phlegm.

I would say hot liquids like tea because they melt it. Also, lots of orange juice for the vitamin C. Put honey in the tea instead of sugar too, its good for colds. Hope you feel better soon!
