I am throwing a little get together for aprox 10 people at my new place it's a mix of adults, teens & kids. What to serve for food drinks ect? I don't want to make it a "formal affair" but I am not going to serve nachos either~ my entertaining personality best fits Rachel Ray/Martha Stewart.

Help

I absolutely love appetizer get togethers and I think everyone else does too. So to start Crab Stuffed Mushroom caps are a must, Small rice and bacon stuffed tomatoes, along with Spinach Artichoke Dip with Chips, Mozza Sticks, Feta Pastery Puffs, Pigs in a Blanket, Calamari, Cocktail wieners and of course the vegatable, fruit, pickle, olive and cheese and cracker trays. You could throw in some salads too, like Macaoni, Potato Coleslaw, or a yummy Manderin Chicken and Almond Salad. That is adult and kid friendly because there is soo much selection and it is all different kinds so no matter what you like there will be something. Throw in some mixed nuts and you have a feast! Oh yeah dessert! You NEED to make miniature cheesecakes with the Nila Wafers in a few different flavours so there is something for everyone. Good luck and enjoy!

It all depends on what time of a day this party/gathering will take place and if you want the food to be more on the side of "munchies," a sit down meal, or both. A cranberry-apple or a cranberry-grape juice coctail with Sprite is a great non-alcoholic beverage for all ages. You could also use Pomegranite Juice with Sprite which is a step up. For the food, if you just want a little of this and that and not a sit down meal. You could make your own cheese ball served with an assortment of flavorful variety of crackers or use small slices of toasted French Bread arranged around the cheese ball on a nice tray. Also put out a tray of veggies & fruit with a vegtable or ranch dip. Everyone loves brownies and cookies to cure a sweet tooth, the recipe for those Nieman Marcus cookies are always a hit. If you want to serve a main course but not so fancy, do a BBQ beef Brisket in a crock pot adding a 1/2 can of beer, your favorite BBQ sauce(s). I use a combination of sauces, I like the Bulls Eye Bold and Spicey, but I also like the Sweet Hickory or Mesquite with Honey so I use both. I put it all in a crock pot on high for 4 hours maybe adding a bit more beer to keep it moist and saucy; Serving this with French Rolls which they can slice half way down the middle to make a BBQ sandwich or just eat it straight off a plate with the bread. You can do a potato or a pasta salad for a side or just use the veggie/fruit tray as the side.

Unless you're rolling in dough, I'd look at what you can make economically that will go a long way and most people love. Which leads me to pasta. How about a great pasta dish such as lasagne, baked ziti, or even a great spaghetti? Served with a nice green salad and garlic bread, brownies for dessert and lots of good wine, you can't go wrong. For the kiddies, you might try home made chicken breast tenders with ranch dressing dipping sauce, french fries, and carrot/celery stix with dip. Kids love those individual juice packs, and probably can drink soda too if their parents are ok with it.

I like spinach and artichoke dip, a meat and cheese tray, water chestnuts (cut a package of bacon in thirds, wrap a waterchestnut with the bacon and stick a toothpick in it to keep it together, put them in a glass baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Take them out and in a bowl mix 1 cup ketchup and 1 cup brown sugar and pour over the chestnuts. Bake for another 30 minutes. Serve hot) This is just what my family has for our get togethers. Good luck!

If you would like to go Mexican, start with good lemonade for the kids....simply lemonade is a good brand....mix with tequila for the adults. El Jimador is a good, not too pricey brand of tequila.

For a snack, serve chips and salsa, or a queso/espinaca hot dip.

For the main course, serve some thinly sliced steaks with rice and refried beans, a small simple salad with avocado and fresh tomato and cabbage added, and some chiles rellenos.

If you want to go with an easy italian meal, serve grape juice for the kids, and wine for the adults.

Make garlic bread, salad with roasted red peppers and olives, and spaghetti tossed with sauteed pepperoni and zucchini and tomatoes and cheese.

Finish it with tiramisu. easy peasy.

How about individual little quiches with a variety of fillings. Scallops wrapped in bacon (for the adults), pigs in a blanket (for the kids/teens/adults).
