You will go to an ordinary xray facility with use of a cat scan or ultrasound machine a radiologist certified in liver biopsy will take a tiny piece of your liver to be examined under a microscope you would be anesthetized and won't feel anything. The highest risk with liver biopsy is bleeding and you should arrange to have someone with you fro 24 hrs after so you can be watched for any complications. this is very rare, but it sounds like a good idea to have it done.

They will either do the biopsy under CT or Ultrasound guidance. You will be put on the table and they will start an IV. They will scan your liver, then a spot on your right side will be cleaned with a brown solution (either betadine or chloraprep). The doctor will inject you with numbing medication that will sting and burn for about 10-15 seconds. The biopsy will happen and you will feel nothing else except pressure. The best part is, you will probably get something in your IV that will make you not care what happened!

Normally, liver biopsies are done under ultrasound or Cat Scan guidance. I have a feeling yours will be under ultrasound, as I imagine your MD just wants a general sample, not a piece of a nodule or anything. You will get local anesthetic, and some MDs even give a light sedation. Under ultrasound, the MD uses a special biopsy needle, and usually takes between 3 and 5 samples. It's usually a very quick procedure, with virtually no downtime. You may need to stay to be monitored for an hour or two afterwards, but that's it. A pathologist will interperet the samples, and send results to your MD. Good luck!

No problem Guy, He ill perform a Fine Needle Aspiration Curettage also known as FNAC, just a local anaesthesia, & will send it for histopatological examination or culture and sensitivity under a guided sonography.
