It's dead and diseased lung and throat tissue.
Don't fool yourself - every time you hear that bowl sizzle you are frying skin on the inside of your body with hot smoke and hot resin. It is really bad for you. The rumors about how weed smoke isn't as bad as cigarettes are wrong - the sticky resin on green actually makes it burn hotter and scar your lungs worse. and it sticks to your skin, tearing as it goes down into your body.
If those burns were on the outside of your body you would not still be looking for an answer as to their cause. Sadly, it's just your internal organs that are taking the beating.
You should quit smoking, or if nothing else, smoke out of a vaporizer. they don't burn the weed at as high a temp. so the damage they do is far less.
but man, 3 grams a day, how much can you possibly accomplish while smoking that much?
think about switching it up a bit and getting out into the world sober a little more. It's still fun out there - even without the giggles and that heavy headed feeling - as a former pot-head - I promise!

You answered your own question.
Chemicals created from smoking - whether it's cigarettes or marijuana, leave a residue of tar build up in your lungs. You may notice that when you go a few days of not smoking, you will start to cough up the tar - this is your body trying to rid itself of the harmful chemicals. It also primarily shows up when you have a cold and are forced to cough from phlegm.
Tar residue in the lungs is comprised almost completely of carcinogenic and mutagenic agents.
If you keep smoking long enough and at a high volume, you will learn precisely how lung cancer forms - it's directly from the contents that create this tar.

Not a dr., but have read that "black tar/charcoal" that comes up from lungs isn't black tar or charcoal - it's dried blood.
Go to Dr. - fast !

This is probably a sign of the lungs "cleaning" themselves of the pollutants in smoke that collected there during the time you were smoking. Even after you quit, it may continue for weeks although it usually begins to taper-off in a month or two.

Sounds like you're coughing up blood. This could be a number of things including pneumonia, tuberculosis, cancer, lung abscess, blood clot, embolism ...
It's not going to get an adequate diagnosis here. Please see a doctor. You really need to do this ASAP.

you need to see a doc if you are coughing up anything thick, any color....this isn't normal and no one on here can give you a diagnosis and you shouldn't trust anyone on here with something like this that is potentially serious

Oh, you are just BRILLIANT. You smoke pot and you wonder why you are coughing up black stuff out of your lungs.
Obviously, you have smoked too much because you have killed off a LOT of brain cells, too.

See your Dr, you will probably need some type of treatment or at the very least peace of mind, and not the type you try to obtain from pot:)
