i wouldn't.... there's too many other options. and if you tell the manager that you won't be involved with cooking the meat or whatever, you won't get the job- they don't want people that refuse to do certain things.
try elsewhere- there has to be a retail store around

I worked at McD's in high school and I never had to cook anything. The register people stay up front and the "grill" people stay in the back. That's how it was at the one I worked at anyway. But... being a vegetarian... I wouldn't personally want to work there. Arent there any coffee shops or delis where you could work that cater more to your eating habits? Most places provide free food on your breaks... it would be a shame to miss out on that perk. I doubt there are any purely vegetarian places nearby, but at least you wouldn't have to smell cooking meat all day long.
Other part time jobs that might work for you would include retail stores, grocery stores, coffee shops, ice cream shops, even p/t office help or caregiving or??? I mean, if it's the only way to make ends meet, I doubt anyone's gonna give you hell over it, but I'd definitely make it my last resort. Just from my own personal experience and beliefs.

Obviously you can work wherever you want, but I know that's not the intent of your question. If you discuss not cooking meet during your interview, they agree to it, and hire you it's...okay. I think it's always best, however, to be able to perform all the job requirements (and I think in places like McD's you end up doing everything) so I suggest you look elsewhere. There are so many other places you could work-restaurants where you could do serving ONLY or coffee shops or book stores. And, think of this, even if you do work at McD's and don't cook any meat, the money from the sale of that meat is benefiting you as a paid employee. Look elsewhere and work with a clean conscience.

Hey, if that's the only job around, then you gotta do what you gotta do.
However. If you're at a university, there must be tons of businesses around, catering to the university. Your first applications should go to places that offer employee discounts you would be able to use--bookstores, grocery stores, clothing stores, department stores. You not only get a job, you get a discount on necessities!
If nothing like that pans out, try coffee shops. I've never seen a college or university that wasn't practically surrounded by coffee shops. Check the campus employment office for jobs on campus. Talk to your professors--I worked a semester organizing and typing a professor's notes for a book. She paid me the standard campus student wage and I could work whatever hours suited me, as long as I got things done on time.
There are jobs out there that pay better and are much less disgusting than fast food. I hope you find one. If not, take the McD's job but keep looking for something better. Something WILL turn up eventually.

I definitely think that working at mcdonalds is a low status job. Try office work. Does your university have an office of student employment? They can help you find a job on campus or off that will be part time and use your skills properly. Ideally a job you get now, helps you get a better job later. Flipping burgers isn't going to do that. Regardless of vegetarian or not, if you are smart enough to get into university, you can be an asset to an organization that will treat you like a person.

If you are asking for a job at McDonald's....I highly doubt that a manager would make special exceptions just for you. He would have to do it for all of the other employees. I do not think that working at McD's is low...if it pays your bills while your in school...than of course it is not low. If you resort to hooking or drug selling...that I would consider low. I wish you luck and don't count on the hiring manager to make an exception for you!!

It's all up to your conscious. Of course it really doesn't make sense for you as a vegetarian to cook and serve meat at McDonald's. It's pretty contradictory.

An honest job that pays you legal money isn't menial.
If you could stand the smell of preservative-filled foods, flesh burning, and the smell of rotted garbage, then go ahead and apply.
Otherwise, check out something in an office or cashier at a non-restaurant establishment.

I don't think that the manager would want to make an exception for you - and plus, almost everything at McDonald's has meat in it.
Why would you WANT to work at McDonald's? There are so many other fun part-time jobs you could get.
You're a vegetarian; why do you want to work around so much meat?
And McDonald's is gross. =/ I'd say look around for other jobs!

I think working at McDonalds would be wrong. You could maybe work at the counter but McDonalds' entire enterprise is based on meat and meat products.

Working at Mcdonalds is just supporting the meat industry, try working at your campus book store or something instead.
