Cuban Sandwich
Recipe courtesy Alton Brown, 2004
See this recipe on air Saturday Mar. 17 at 5:30 PM ET/PT.
Show: Good Eats
Episode: Sandwich-craft
4 hoagie rolls
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/4 pound baked ham, thinly sliced
1/4 pound roast pork, thinly sliced
1/4 pound provolone cheese, thinly sliced
10 thin dill pickle slices, approximately 2 whole pickles
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, room temperature
Slice the bread horizontally in half, leaving 1 edge intact. Lay the bread open and spread each side with the mustard. Divide the ingredients evenly among the slices of roll. Start with the ham followed by the pork, cheese, and dill pickles. Bring the tops and bottoms together.
Heat your panini maker or sandwich press. Butter each side of the press. Place the sandwiches inside, press down and grill until the cheese is melted and the bread is flat and browned, approximately 10 minutes. If you don't have a sandwich press, you can heat 6 fireplace bricks wrapped in foil, in a 500 degrees F oven for 1 hour and then press the sandwich between them for 10 minutes. Serve warm.

A cuban sandwich has real roast pork, not the deli meat kind. Mustard, and Swiss cheese. I like to add tomatoes and mayo, just cause. It's so amazingly good. You can buy a pork loin, I would use a roast pork shoulder. Season it, and bake it. I would use something called Adobo, it's a seasoning in the Spanish part of the supermarket, if you have any. Then when it's done, you slice it and add it to your sandwich.

roasted pork and deli ham with mustard and picckles and a sharp white cheese (nor really swiss, but similar in flavor, but no holes) on cuban style bread and grilled together. it's an excellent meal, but if any of the ingredients is of low quality, the sandwich is ruined. try to have it accompanied with yuca frita instead of fries...
que rico!

a traditional Cuban sandwich is boiled ham, roasted pork and some kind of cheese (i usually see it with Swiss, but somehow doubt this is what they would serve it with in Cuba) and pickles, grilled in a sandwich press on a crusty white bread. they are delicious.

do you mean reuban sandwich? I've never heard of a cuban.
Reuben sandwiches are made with corned beef and sauerkraut.
INGREDIENTS:
rye bread
mayonnaise or Thousand Island dressing
corned beef
sauerkraut
Swiss cheese
PREPARATION:
Spread 2 slices of rye bread lightly with mayonnaise or Thousand Island dressing. Put a layer of sauerkraut over one slice, then top with a slice of corned beef then a slice of Swiss cheese.
