Are you taking any medication? a lot of palpitations occur in the center chest, are you are constantly aware of your heartbeat during theses attacks., often beating irregular?
Best advice is see your doctor, you might want to get your thyroid function checked or at least mention the possibility of over active thyroid you might want to cut back or try cutting back on medication and various foods to try and pinpoint the cause, don't rule out plain old indigestion. I take Thyroxine for an under active thyroid, and had a lot of trouble with pulpitations, I stopped taking the drug for 9 days to flush my system clean, on thee 7th day all started returning to normal and I started to take the drug in smaller quantity increasing every 9 days till I found an acceptable compromise level.

usually feels like a flip in my chest. i get them a lot, less now though since ive been excercising more. when i get them they seem to come and go in waves, ill be getting 10 a minute for a few days then i hardly get any for the next few weeks. no idea what the cause is. you get used to them eventually. you should probably go to the doctor just to make sure theyre the harmless variety and you dont have something more serious going on. try to figure out what your triggers are (common ones are stress, lack of sleep, too much caffeine/nicotine, certain meds, physical exertion etc.). personally i dont seem to have really definitive triggers but some people do. and like i said i seem to get less "waves" since i started excercing regularly. but everybody is different

Palpitations are generally defined as when the person is uncomfortably aware of their own heartbeat. That may or may not apply to what you're talking about, but I would just go to the doctor and describe it to him as best you can, and don't feel stupid, because they don't expect you to diagnose yourself -- that's what they're there for :)

Too much caffeine does that to me so I understand the sensation you are describing. Don't feel silly going to the doctor for that. Trust me, they hear all kinds of stuff. Your health is of utmost importance!

Not a good sign, better see your cardiologist or report to an ER., for immediate and early evaluation of your case.
