I find that a variety of food is the important thing to do. Don't eat the same thing too often... There are a lot of soy product (mock meat) that are good for you, and are pretty inexpensive. Also, Taco Bell has beans that can go onto any of their menu items.
Good luck.

Keep your diet balanced. The biggest downfall of a vegetarian diet is when you don't eat enough of the right kinds of foods. Many vegetaians don't get enough protien. If you are a lacto-ovo vegetarian you will eat milk and eggs. If you are vegan you will not.

Best sources of protien are beans and nuts. Particularly tofu (which is made of soybeans)

Rice, wheat and other pulses - main ingredient.
All vegetables - like carrot, radish, tomato, potato etc and greens.
Veg salads are good things to add in your recipe.

Stir fry.

Endless variety. You can flavor it any way you want.

For vegetarian food (or not), a great stir fry is fabulous.
