As long as it takes. We don't really have any other choice.

Well we have no choice but to wait!! All around the world however scientists are working on a cure/vaccine for HIV/AIDS. The way I see though, when a cure/vaccine is found another virus will most likely arrive. Possibly even more deadly than the HIV/AIDS virus. I think we needs viruses, it helps keep the population down and I wouldn't be surprised if within 50-100 years a virus appears that is so deadly that it kills a significant proportion of the population.

I'm sure someone said the same about Cancer. Although treatments for both have come a long way since the 80's and before we've still a long way to go.

Our understanding of HIV & Aids is advancing all the time. My belief is that we'll have a vaccine but not a cure..... yet.

Timeframe is not known but atleast we know that someone is trying to get the cure. One just needs to be patient and wait. Remember when we started to hear about this desease we were so afraid that we thought we will get it from touching a person with it. Now we know better and there are ARV's meaning that soon something will come up. Taking good care of yourself and regular excercises and healthy eating contribute a lot in making a person infected live longer. This sometimes is a good treatment towards fighting the disease/virus. You will be surprised that by doing so you live longer than the person tested negatively to the virus.

25 years (at least).

Actually I'm interested to know the average length of time it takes to create a vaccine and what is making the development of a vaccine/cure for HIV/Aids so slow to discover.

me personally, i dont think a cure will as such be found for hiv due to new stains etc the new strains are coming out faster than they can reasearch the old ones...although some people do actually recover from hiv rare but true!!! REMEMBER the guy in usa afew years back his own antibodies overpowered the retrovirus..

I hope it wont be too long , i lost a relative because of that horrible disease but then again i read the bible and it says there shall be incurable diseases in the last days , of which i believe HIV is one of them sorry to be such a pessimist but i dnt think there ever will be a cure.At least there are ARVs and things like that to keep the infected going.

i don't think they have ever found any cure for any virus the common cold is still around remember the only way is going to be through DNA research of if they find some other virus that attacks the aids virus and i herd they are doing tests on monkeys with aids because it does not kill them it just makes them ill

The world would ask that South African scientist if he, himself, has HIV/AIDS. ..question.. how do you tell the world anything? the world has never listened before... all previous answers explain my point exactly. either they don't believe you, ask for proof, or make a joke out of it. good luck pal. ha.
