Well, last Friday I had my second treatment. I'm looking at 4 more at least. My right eye was having a "guppy" floating around, it turned into a beta fish in just a few days. I use those words for examples LOL. I have had diabetes for over 30 years and this laser treatment is saving my eyesight. The floating things I see are from blood leakage where the optic nerve connects to the eye, diabetes causes veins to burst, and then your body tries to make new one, they are to weak to hold up. I'm comfortable with my treatments. So yes, it is a good thing for diabetics.

If you're a type 2 diabetic, you may not really need the surgery.
DIABETES SYMPTOMS
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Blurry vision
I've had my blurry vision improve and sometimes go completely away. By using herbs, and getting balance in my life. I'm a type 2, and there are many things WE can do to overcome type II diabetes, and improve life as a type I diabetic. I've been researching alternative medicine, and the amount of help that's available to diabetics is amazing.
Natural remedies are quite effective, and include:
Cinnamon
Bitter Melon
Gymnema Sylvestre
Nopal cactus
American Ginseng
Fenugreek
Chromium picolinate
Cinnamon regulates glucose, and has a polyphenol compound called MHCP that mimics insulin and activates cell receptor sites. A quarter teaspoon twice daily makes a difference. Fenugreek increases blood flow and inhibits the growth of infectious organisms. Everything on the list has a use in fighting diabetes. Learn how to use these herbs and don't fall victim to diabetes needlessly. You can find out about about them on line, or in a book I read cover to cover--
"One Son's Quest for the Cause and Cure of Diabetes", ISBN 7890766313
The author, a doctor, lost his mother to diabetes and spent the next 20 years finding a way to overcome it. My brother was dying of diabetes, and I was just starting to need insulin when we came across this definitive work which came out in February 2005. We both lead mostly normal lives now. It's a life saver, and the best money you'll ever spend on the subject if you decide to go that way.
You might want to check Abe Books, Alibri's, or Amazon.com for a good used copy cheap. I bought mine new, and I think it was about $35. I don't get any money from anybody for telling you this--just want to help, and the techniques in this book is what made the difference for me and mine. Best of luck.

I would strongly advise no, guard your eyes like gold. Anyone who says yes, I'd be worried. I am a type 1 diabetic for now forty years. I too like you thought about laser instead of glasses and after five years of laser to terminate blood vessels in the back of my both eyes my mind was made up. Touch wood in all my time I have never yet ended up in trouble or Hospital for Diabetes Control. Insulin in some people makes blood vessels grow in the back of the eye and if not lasered, bleed and can cause loss of sight. Hence the importance eye check up with specialist not local optician.

I suffer the same affliction as you. I was told by an eye doctor that they could correct my cataracts and return my vision to 20/20. I haven't had it done yet, but who knows. I would advise speaking with an eye surgeon and see what they have to say. Ask about their sucess rate, how many they have done, and any other details you would like to know. Make a list and take it with you to the doctors. Good luck

as long as you don't have retinopathy then it should be fine. Retinopathy would be the only reason I can think of why a diabetic should not have the treatment

ok obviously laser ARE NOT chocked full of sugar, and as per the answer above mine that kind of alser treatment is for retinopathy not lasik for vision correction but to save you from going blind....my retinologist says that lasik is a possible option for me after my retinopathy is taken care of....personally I would ask your endocronologist or Dr if they think youare a good candidate for lasik...I say GO FOR IT if your Dr gives you the thumbs up!!!
