There are different flavors of meat, depending upon the animal used. Spices and different cooking methods and different recipes also come to play. This is like asking what vegetables taste like. So many different kinds, different cooking methods, spices, recipes, etc, so the flavors are all different.

It's hard to describe the flavor of anything when you've never had it. But I will agree, the soy burgers and chikken nuggets taste pretty close to the real thing. Soy sausage does not, I won't lie. But any soy fake meat product will be far less greasy than meat, that's for sure.

I have a Muslim friend who had never tasted pork. One day she was out with her ex b/f and ordered clam chowder. She was eating, and noticed something she'd never tasted before, but hated the flavor of. She pulled it out of her mouth and saw that it was bacon. She thought, yuck! How can people like this?

Would meat taste good to you since you've never had it (I assume)? I don't know, but as someone pointed out, the smell of cooked meat is pretty close to the real thing.

Why do I still see someone asking if your religion forbids meat? People, vegetarianism is more often a lifestyle choice, and not necessarily part of any religion.

it depends on the type of meat you are asking. Also, since you don't have any idea of how they taste, then you still wouldn't know it even if I say that they taste a little bit creamy for example. Hmm..Your question sounds really good so I'll try to experiment and identify which vegetables taste like meat. In that case, I'll return back with some answers for you to easily comprehend as I can compare the taste of meats with vegetables and fruits.

Try seitan. It's a wheat gluten substitute for meat and although you can't relate its taste to meat, it's tasty and light and you can prepare it in so many ways you'll never get bored (just like with almost any other vegetarian product). In my opinion, imitating the taste of real meat is unnecessary when there are many new vegetarian tastes you can discover and like even more than real meat, like seitan.

I've been a vegan for about 10 years...as far as I remember it, most "sausage" tastes pretty close to the vegan versions. There are "chicken" tenders available in the freezer section that taste pretty darn close to real chicken, even my meat eater friends have said so.

The thing I haven't really seen duplicated is steak, but I really didn't like the taste...the smell of steak cooking smells better than it tastes I think...it's always seasoned really well but the meat tastes...well...when I was younger I used to suck on it to get the seasoning off then spit it out. It makes your mouth water, but I think that's because it tastes sort of like you just got punched in the mouth.

I do not know how to explain to people who have not tasted Indian vegetable curries. But there are two curries which taste similar to meat preparation, one is Nutrila[product of soya bean]curry prepared spicy and the other is tender Jack fruit curry made with spicy sauce. Ask any one who has tasted them.

Er. Kids. Don't thumbs-down the honest answers. Yeah, "ooh, like heaven" -- sure, that's not a useful answer. But stuff like "filling" is an honest attempt to answer the question.

Yikes. If the smell, as pointed out here, is accurate -- I'm not making any mistakes by not eating it. Not a fan. No offence to the people who like it.

Anyway:

Somebody once compared chicken to "butter-flavoured pineapple" when trying to describe it to me apropos of the same question. That got "huh?" from some other chicken fans, but, based on what I can gauge of the texture, it's not a _ridiculous_ description. Stringy-creamy-mild-chewy- salty was what I got out of that.

I once accidentally bit into a chicken fajita (stupid, stupid Taco Bell...) and didn't get to taste it, but did get to bite in a bit. It was, well, freaky. "Like biting in to my own arm" was what I said at the time. Really, the texture was comparable to -- well, there's no mistaking that it's animal. Similarly, knifing a steak, it's obvious that you're cutting in to flesh.

Nasty! Bloody and disgusting. It has a nice texture (if you're not thinking about what it is) but it tastes like the blood and poop that are indeed in the package. It tastes a whole lot worse than it smells, and I personally can't bear the smell of meat.

Easy. Whichever meat you'd like to know how it taste like, have someone grill the meat till done, then smell it. You'll get about a 90% idea of how it tastes like. Smelling it raw is about 60-%70% accurate I'd say. Better yet, taste them! Unless of course your faith/beliefs strictly forbids you to do so.
