A heart attack, formally called a Myocardial Infarction, is the result of a blockage of blood flow (O2) in one of the coronary arteries to the myocardium (heart muscle) . This results initially in ischemia (recoverable, mild pain and shortness of breath ), progresses to injury (still recoverable, pain and definite symptoms of a heart attack) and finally into necrosis (actual death of the myocardial tissue, this is completely non-reversible!!!)....The tissue dies, No re-growth, recovery at all. There are possible interventions to decrease the damage (such as aspirin), but there is nothing at all that can be done once the acute Myocardial Infarction has resulted in necrosis....

Hope this helps!!!!!!

Heart Attack as you asked it is not itself a disease. A heart can become diseased from different causes though....blockages from high cholesterol & triglycerides building up in our blood for one thing. Once you have a heart attack, you usually have bypass surgery for a blockage leading to the heart so that the heart can get the blood supply needed. A person then will be on medicines and an exercise program for the rest of their life and will be checked by their doctor yearly later on to be sure everything is still working as it should be. Some blockages what is called a "stent" can be inserted into the vessel to the heart to open up the blockage and is left inside there. These usually don't last a lifetime and then have to be done again or a bypass surgery done. A "heart patient" just means one that has had problems with his heart. There are other diseases that can affect the heart muscles though, you can do a search online to look up "heart disease" but the word Attack is not the same thing.

A heart attack happens when the heart muscle gets damaged by something. Could be several things. You can RECOVER from a heart attack, but there is NO cure. Once damaged it just takes time to repair itself as best it can. This will depend on how much damage was done and other organs affected. Check out these sites:
www.prevention.com
www.webmd.com
Or type heart attack into ANY search engine and it will give you signs, symptoms, prevention, etc. A whole shite load of info out here. Nothing like waiting till the last minute to research something that has a million different sites and symptoms.

More than 1 million Americans have heart attacks each year. A heart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI), is permanent damage to the heart muscle. "Myo" means muscle, "cardial" refers to the heart and "infarction" means death of tissue due to lack of blood supply.

Nothing cures a heart attack, take medicine to prevent a heart attack. Once you have a heart attack, that part of the heart dies, nothing you can do about that.
