1. Yes, you can be a vegetarian and drink milk (you are a lacto-vegetarian, ovo-lacto if you also eat eggs.

2. Yes, milk (greatly) contributes to animal cruelty.
It also contributes to the veal industry because cows are forced to become pregnant with the calves in order to produce milk, and those calves get chained down to produce veal.

Dairy also contributes to animal suffering because the hormones and chemicals given to cows causes them to lead a life of constant pain. Also, when the cows can no longer produce enough, they are turned into steak.

3. No, you do not need milk to grow. Total myth.

You need calcium, but not from milk. That is why the milk industry is no longer allowed to use the "does a body good" slogan.

The thing to remember about vegetarianism is that it is a process. To give up everything all at once... well, would take a Great person (I know I am not that great).

Much of meat and animal products are processed with or contain addictive substances. Also, we have been fed these things since birth, so it is not easy to simply stop. Everything around us is meat, meat, meat, or some substance thereof.

Just as one could not expect a severe drug addict to give up crack, heroine, coke, alcohol and cigarettes all at once, we cannot expect a person to go from the old-fashioned American diet to a complete vegan in a day. Either person is far more likely than not to fail.

So, cut what is best for you; wait until you feel completely comfortable and cut something else from your diet.
For a lot of people, this process can take a decade. Every little bit helps.

Yes, you can drink milk. Some people dont believe in it, they think "milk is for baby cows, not for human adults". So if you personally want to elimate all animal products from your diet (milk, cheese, butter eggs, honey, etc... ) then that would make you a Vegan, not a Vegetarian.

Technically vegetarians avoid animal flesh, vegans avoid animal flesh and byproducts. So, yes, vegetarians can drink milk. By the way, you don't need cows milk to grow. You need calcium and protein, which you can get from *lots* of other sources. If you are interested in preventing animal cruelty, try drinking soy milk and cutting back on other forms of dairy.

There are several different types of vegetarian. One is called oh how do you say it hueavos/lactos vegetarian. They eat eggs and drink milk. Then there are those that say they are vegetarian but eat fish and chicken, drink milk eat eggs but leave all the other meat alone. The true vegetarians, that eat absolutely no meat or any animal product whatsoever are called vegans. I was a vegetarian at one time but could never bring myself to be a vegan because well I just like milk and Ice cream way too much

Well, you can, by definition, drink milk and be a vegetarian, but I encourage you to become vegan like me if that video bothers you.

It's just a myth that you need milk to grow. I'm sorry that you grew up thinking that, and I don't blame you. Mankind in the West has been drinking cow's milk for so long now that we've forgotten we don't even need it. Nowadays children are constantly nagged by their mothers to drink cow's milk. Their mothers were nagged by their mother's mothers, and so on. Break the cycle!

Milk contributes to animal cruelty, yes.

Vegetarians can drink milk, vegans cannot.

You do not need milk to grow at all. Milk is not meant for humans, it is meant for baby cows.

Only babies need milk, mother's milk. Everyone else is perfectly healthy without it, even growing kids. When I was a kid, I rarely drank it 'cause I didn't like it. At home, if it wasn't in my cereal, I didn't drink it at all. In cereal was pretty much the only time I had milk, and I didn't eat cereal every day.

Without milk you'll be fine, trust me.

Depends on whether you are a vegan or a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Vegans try not to eat any animal products, while lacto-ovo vegetarians will eat eggs & dairy products. It's true that milk has a lot of things that are healthy for you but it is possible to get those vitamins & minerals from other foods.

It depends what kind of vegitarian you are.

When i was vegitarian i didnt eat meat but i ate everything else including milk =)

vegans however dont eat any products that animals were used to make.

lacto-vegitarian dont eat meat and diary products.

so to answer your question a "vegetarian" can drink milk if they are just a simple vegitarian. although others opinions on it can vary. depending upon there believes. So be open to all answers.
=) hope you found what youre looking for, goodluck
