I have been diagnosed with askthma for years but now doctors have revealed something strange. Unlike other people who have their air tube contract, I have minor contraction and alot of mucus buildup. Right now I'm wheezing alot so any quick help or suggestions would be appreciated. I just used my Xopenex inhaler (almost same as Albuterol) and I'm still having the symptoms, any ideas?

Relax. Anxiety makes the asthma seem a lot worse. Have you just used your inhaler once so far? If so, use it again after a couple of minutes have gone by. If you are still having symptoms, have someone drive you to the hospital ASAP or call 911 for an ambulance. Asthma is nothing to mess with. I'm a paramedic, and I have asthma, and I've learned the hard way that this disease is not to be taken lightly.
It might be a good idea to schedule an appointment to see your primary care doctor. Maybe you could be put on a different controller medication, that might be more effective at reducing the number of attacks you have.
Mucus buildup is one of the symptoms of asthma, in additon to bronchial constriction. I was reading an interesting article the other day, about doctors misdiagnosing other medical issues as asthma. If your asthma medications aren't very effective, and you are taking them as prescribed, it might not hurt to get a second opinion from an experienced allergist and immunologist.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Use another few puffs of you r xopenex inhaler and then try inhale some humidified air, like boiling water in a bowl with your head under a towel, inhaling it for a few minutes. That will loosen the mucus plugs, and then you can get the much easier out than usual.
It does sounds as though you need a cortisone inhaler like budesonide or similar. You basically use it religiously 2 x a day and it actually stop the inflammation from happening in the first place, so this is a preventer, and your Xopenex is then used as nec like a reliever. Hope this helps

theres 2 types of asthma, one is the common weezing variety and one is the caugh variant type. if u have the caugh variant type (u caugh urself sick all the time, with no weezing at all), and ur weezing, then u need to go to the hospital asap!

mayb ur asthma is mixed with a chest infection or bronchitis or something, so mayb u need to see another doctor and see about some drugs to treat an infection.
