I've been with my bf of 6 months, have not had sexual intercourse due to my concern of him contracting the HPV virus. I have /had Low risk. My last and only outbreak was in Nov of Last year. My doc says I shouldn't be worried and to use condoms when we have sex. I'm still not okay with having sex yet. My next visit is in April and I'm getting the vaccine to prevent any other strands I can contract. Now my BF asked me that if we are both okay from our check ups can we have sex w/ out condoms? I freaked. I told him I'd like to take it a step at a time...I know for guys it's not a big deal and my BF doesn't care much about the virus. So why does it bother me? I'm still really scared and unsure of this freaken virus.
Any advice, suggestions? Please serious answers only!

Ask your boyfriend what would happen to your relationship if he did contract it? Is he more than likely to stay in the picture? If you're that uncomfortable, make him wear the condom, it's not going to hurt him.

The complications for a male with the HPV virus is low but he can still contract it and possibly get genital warts. I don't know why he would want to take a chance but it's his own body. The fact that he is not concerned about contracting a virushe knows you have; concerns me. It seems he may not value his own health and may possibly put you at risk in the future. If he doesn't care about his own sexual health, why would he care about yours?

I think you answered your own question,"he doesn't care much about this virus".In other words he doesn't CARE about you!! Re-think this relationship, life is way too short to have this person in your life. What else won't he "care about"? This is about your life and health, and the effects last a life time, and along with your unborn children. You are better than this,do you not deserve the best that life can offer? This guy won't ever give that to you. Take care. SW RNP

It is perfectly natural that you are bothered. The risks are huge for you (possible cervical cancer being one of them). Use condoms if you do have sex, it is possible to pass any infections back and forth. Remember, HPV is unpredictable and may or may not go away. Protect yourself and if your BF is not understanding then you may not want to continue the relationship.
