Bronchitis is inflamation of the bronchial tubes, pnuemonia is fluid in the lungs. If you do not cough up the mucus in the bronchial tubes this can make you sicker, no matter how much it hurts. I have had both. I can tell you pnueumonia is way more pressure and pain on the chest then bronchitis. Follow your doctors instructions. You will feel better soon

Bronchitis can rapidly lead to pneumonia, so it is good to take those antibiotics and follow up with the doctor. The bronchi are the two "tubes" that lead to the lungs, and infection in them would concentrate pain and "rattling" sensation to the upper front of the chest, whereas pneumonia would produce a "rattling" or congestion lower in the ribcage area, or over a wider area from shoulder to lower ribs, front and back. The congestion would be difficult to cough up, and would require more extensive care such as inhalers to thin secretions. Pleurisy can also produce a terrible burning pain with little mucus on coughing, but antibiotics cure this also. Follow up with your doctor and know it is important to get enough fluids if you are not fluid restricted for other health reasons. Hope you feel better soon.

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

The only way to know if it was pneumonia is with a chest x-ray. Since you haven't mentioned anything about a chest x-ray then no one can tell you. If you doc feels it is brochitis than that is a proper diagnosis but it you think it might be pneumonia then you can always ask for a chest x-ray.
