I am having a pirate party for myself as a bit of a laugh as I am turning 17. I am having about 15 friends over. I am looking for some ideas for food, decorations, costumes and games.

I live in Australia so unless you know of items that are easily avalible here, please keep the suggestions general.

I am quite a creative person so I have no problem with making a few decorations. I don't want anything thats extremely expsensive although I dont mind paying a fair amount.

Thanks!

Create a treasure/ or scavenger hunt. Prepare ahead of time, so that after participants have come to the end of their hunt, they get a trinket of some sort (an eye patch, or costume jewelry, or a kaleidascope...).

Here are links I found for ya:
This one is for a kid's party, but you could adapt some of the ideas for your own party: http://www.boardmanweb.com/party/pirate.html

Try the website for The Oriental Trading Company. They have a bunch of party supplies for Pirate parties.
Otherwise, check the phone book for a costume store in your area. They may have cheap eye patches,& bandanas. You can buy an inexpensive skirt at a thrift store (or you may already own one) that you can make a small to start and then hand tear it up to look a bit ragged. Find a pair of black and white striped tights and a men's white t-shirt (with or without holes) to complete the look.
You can make your own treasure maps out of unlined paper. Crumple it up after drawing the map (Xerox them if you need more than 2 or 3) and then carefully burn the edges and splash them with a bit of tea for an old antique look.
Almost any candy shop will carry gold and silver foil wrapped chocolate coins. These can be placed in small treasure chests, purchased at a craft store. You could also buy colorful bead necklaces and rings to use as decorations/party favours.
For food, I wouldn't get too crazy. Most teens are a little picky.Stick with favorites like pizza, just call it Swashbucklers Sausage Pizza or Pirates Cove Pepperoni. Maybe you could offer a tropical drink - pineapple juice, coconut milk and the juice out of a jar of cherries, mixed with some 7up, served over crushed ice would be good.

Take your favorite board game, and re-make it with pirate names, the names of seas, pirate ships, etc. Then set up timed rounds so as many people as possible can play over the course the night. Have prizes for each winner, then have play offs with better prizes, and a final winner with a good prize.
Watch pirate movies (ie. "Captain Hook with Robin Cook, etc.) for costume and decorating ideas. Netting and sails can be put up in corners where no one will bump them or accidently pull them down. Cardboard can be painted or marked with marker pens to look like ships, swords, and the planks to be walked. You can also glue the cardboard in layers to create a 3-D effect. If you can afford a creative cake maker, have them design a pirate cake for you. That IS expensive. Have fun, 17!
